Common Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office

COURSE DESCRIPTION: 

Dental practice is continuous work toward the fusion of art and science. During the process of pursuing the perfection, unexpected events may happen. Medical emergencies in the dental office are often a dreaded occurrence for all members of the dental provider team. In this lecture, Solon Kao will go over the common medical emergencies in the dental environment and how to handle them.

Course Objectives:
1. Identify potential common medical emergencies in the dental office before they occur.
2. Understand how to approach and manage the situation with team effort.
3. Know which equipment to use and how to use it in the event of an emergency.

PRESENTER:

Solon Kao, DDS

Solon Kao is a diplomate for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Currently, he is chair and clinical associate professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at UMKC School of Dentistry. Kao has received numerous teaching awards and is very popular among dental students and patients at UMKC. He has been lecturing nationally to various state dental societies, as well as to national dental organizations, such as AAOMS. He is a faculty member of AAOMS and has served as the secretary for the Missouri Society of OMS.
