The 26th Annual Dr. Arthur E. Iwersen Pediatrics Lecture: Mind Really Matters

Thursday, April 23

9 AM - Noon

3 CDE Credits – DDS, DH, DA, AUX

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

We all have had that moment when we’ve looked at the schedule and seen the name of the child who evades our behavior guidance skills. Why does it seem harder to manage the behavior of the contemporary kid? In this presentation, Clarice Law Eyre discusses some of the societal factors that have influenced parenting and the related effects on cognitive development and child behavior. We’ll discuss some frameworks for understanding the root of child behavior, more recent changes in behavioral diagnoses, and strategies that can influence behavior in the dental office.

Course Objectives:
1. Discuss societal influences on parenting practices.
2. Summarize changes in child and adolescent behaviors.
3. Discuss changes in the use of behavior guidance techniques.
4. Summarize systematic reviews regarding basic behavior guidance techniques.
5. Discuss the role of brain development on behavior.
6. Apply parenting systems to the dental setting.
