About the Course

managing and maintaining implant patients. The dentist and dental hygienist who are knowledgeable in the surgical, restorative and maintenance protocols are an invaluable resource to patients considering implants. The long-term health of peri-implant soft and hard tissues is essential to a successful outcome for implant therapy. This course will discuss the fundamentals of implant surgery, restoration and treatment interventions, and focus in depth on the critical management and maintenance aspects for long-term success.

This session will enable participants to:
•Learn the fundamentals of implant surgery, restoration and in-depth details for a successful maintenance program
•Identify when to probe, when to take radiographs and how to properly document findings at each maintenance recall appointment
•Identify and differentiate between the ailing, failing and failed implant and how to treat each complication; know different philosophies and the correct sequence to treat the different types of peri-implant diseases
•Understand the different instrumentation and techniques for predictable implant maintenance


Jim Grisdale, BA, DDS

Dr. Grisdale is a Board-Certified Specialist in Periodontics and Prosthodontics with a part-time private practice in Vancouver, British Columbia. Dr. Grisdale was formerly a full-time faculty member in the graduate periodontal residency program at Loma Linda School of Dentistry and is currently an invited lecturer. Dr. Grisdale lectures extensively in the United States and Canada and has lectured in Southeast Asia and Europe. He is a mentor for Periodontic and Implant Study Clubs. Dr. Grisdale has published in the area of treatment for dentin sensitivity, implants, bone regeneration and soft tissue periodontal adhesives. He is a member of several professional societies.
