About the Course
Bleaching pearls includes an overview of a smile analysis, tips on bonding composite restorations to Lighter teeth and appropriate tray fabrication for a single dark tooth, as well as techniques for internal
bleaching of endodontically-treated teeth. Also learn “boil and form” tray fabrication for children and treatment of bleaching sensitivity. Explore new caries diagnosis (ICDAS), which suggest different
restorative treatment for minimally involved teeth, and the new use of bleaching materials for caries control in elderly and orthodontic patients.
This session will enable particpants to:
- Understand bleaching options for single dark teeth with internal and external stains
- Discuss treatment for tooth sensitivity using bleaching trays and potassium nitrate
- Review bonding tips and shades for bleached teeth after smile analysis
- Learn caries control with bleaching agents in youth and adults
- Discover various tray fabrication techniques and indications - intraoral and laboratory
Speaker
Van Haywood, D.M.D.
Dr. Van B. Haywood is a professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences, Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. Dr. Haywood retired from full-time teaching at the end of 2022 and was awarded Professor Emeritus. In 1989, he co-authored the first publication in the world on Nightguard vital bleaching (at-home tray bleaching) with Dr. Harald Heymann, and in 1997, he co-authored the first article on extended treatment (six-months) of tetracycline-stained teeth using this technique. He has completed further research and more than 145 publications on the tray-bleaching technique and the topic of bleaching and esthetics, including the first papers on treating bleaching sensitivity with potassium nitrate, direct thermoplastic tray fabrication, bleaching primary teeth and caries control with bleaching materials.
